Wisconsin Player Wins $119 Million Mega Millions Jackpot
A Mega Millions player from Wisconsin has become the fifth jackpot winner on the game this year after landing $119 million in the latest draw on Tuesday 15th September.
They matched the numbers 25, 28, 38, 59 and 62, plus the gold Mega Ball of 22. The jackpot had previously been climbing for 12 consecutive draws, having most most recently been won on 31st July by a ticket holder from California who bagged $22 million.
The Mega Millions jackpot has never previously been won in Wisconsin. The Badger State joined the game in January 2010.
The lucky winner now has 180 days to come forward and claim their prize. They will have to make an appointment at the lottery office in Madison. Once the win has been validated, they can choose to receive the advertised jackpot as an annuity over 29 years or a cash lump sum of $94 million.
Apart from the jackpot winner, there were more than 470,000 prizes given away in the draw on 15th September. One player, from Georgia, landed the second prize of $1 million after matching the five main white balls and just missing out on the Mega Ball. Mega Millions Winners
The latest win ranks as the fourth-largest of the year on Mega Millions. A couple from Glendale in Arizona pocketed the biggest of the lot, $414 million, on 9th June, while the jackpot has also been won twice in New Jersey since the start of 2020 - a $202 million win in February and a $123 million win in July.
While the Mega Millions jackpot had never been won in Wisconsin prior to the latest draw, the state has crowned lots of other big winners and has even occasionally been dubbed ‘Win-sconsin’.
The Badger State’s biggest-ever winner has been Manuel Franco, who instantly became $768 million richer in March 2019 when he matched all the numbers in a Powerball draw.
The Mega Millions jackpot will now reset to $20 million for the next draw on Friday night. Players in all 47 jurisdictions will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of the Wisconsin winner. Use the Checker to see if your numbers have landed you a prize.
