Canada Lotto Max Player Wins Record CA$70 Million
A player from Ontario has smashed the record for the largest-ever win in Canada’s Lotto Max after matching all seven numbers in the draw on Tuesday January 7th, becoming the first ticket holder to land CA$70 million.
Tuesday’s draw was the biggest in the history of Lotto Max, with a record jackpot and 42 MaxMillions prizes up for grabs, following a run of 11 rollovers stretching back to the last time there was a winner on November 26th.
The jackpot cap increased to CA$70 million last May when a number of changes came into effect, and the top prize reached this maximum amount for the first time on Friday January 3rd. There were no winners in that draw, leading to a ‘massive surge’ in sales ahead of Tuesday’s big event, according to the Western Canada Lottery Corporation.
The winning numbers were 3, 8, 12, 14, 17, 18 and 29, with a Bonus Ball of 11. Among the 2.5 million winners, only a single ticket matched the full set of main numbers, while seven players matched six main numbers plus the Bonus to pocket CA$197,679 each.
Go to the Lotto Max Numbers page for a full prize breakdown from the record draw, as the wait for the big winner from Ontario to come forward and claim their prize now begins.
MaxMillions Winners
When the Lotto Max jackpot is worth CA$50 million or more, MaxMillions provides another exciting opportunity for players to become millionaires. In this game, separate draws are held for every extra CA$1 million in the prize fund, and you are automatically entered into each one if you have a Lotto Max ticket.
The jackpot is CA$1 million for each game and there are no other prizes, so you have to match all the numbers to win a prize. The money is shared if there are multiple winners.
With such strong sales for Tuesday’s draw, there were 42 separate MaxMillions draws alongside the main game. Out of the 42 games, 20 of them had winners. The remaining CA$22 million will be put towards the next jackpot, making the top prize for Friday night an estimated CA$33 million even though it has only just been won.
