£25 Million UK Lotto Jackpot Shared Between Five Ticket Holders
There were plenty of smiles following Wednesday night’s UK Lotto draw as five ticket holders shared a £25 million prize pot. Remarkably, the lucky quintet each managed to land their £5 million sum without having to match all six main numbers in the draw.
The Lotto Jackpot Rolls Down
The Lotto jackpot had rolled over for ten successive draws and recently exceeded its £22 million jackpot cap. Under the rules of the game, once this total is surpassed, the top prize must be won in the following draw at the latest. Should a jackpot winner fail to be found, the reward on offer rolls down to the next highest winning prize tier. Given that this was the situation in Wednesday night’s draw, Lotto lovers were desperate to snap up tickets in the hope of becoming a millionaire.
As no ticket holders were able to match the usual six numbers, the jackpot rolled down to the Match 5 + Bonus Ball prize tier, much to the delight of five fortuitous ticket holders. This isn’t an unusual occurrence in ‘must-win’ draws. A similar scenario happened when the jackpot cap was last activated in May, a result that saw two ticket holders share a sum worth £24.4 million.
Further UK Lotto Success
It wasn’t just the players in the second highest prize tier who were toasting their good fortune. A further 1,358,808 participants scooped prizes ranging from a free Lucky Dip ticket for matching two main numbers to £595 for correctly predicting five main numbers. This figure is the largest number of winners in a single draw for over four months and ranks ninth overall this year. The highest honour is still held by the draw on Saturday 15th April, which produced more than 1.7 million prize winners.
The winning Lotto numbers were 11, 12, 15, 22, 27 and 44, with 7 appearing as the Bonus Ball.
There was also plenty of joy in the Millionaire Raffle draw as one player secured a £1 million prize, while 20 other entrants won £20,000 each. For a complete prize breakdown and additional draw information, head to the UK Lotto Results page.
