£24.8 Million UK Lotto Jackpot Must Be Won
Following a run of ten consecutive rollovers, the UK Lotto jackpot has exceeded its £22 million jackpot cap. As a result, players are hurriedly snapping up tickets ahead of what is being rightly described by National Lottery officials as a ‘must-win’ draw.
Lotto Jackpot Cap Information
It is a little known fact that Lotto has a jackpot cap of £22 million, a rule that came into force in 2016. The limit on the size of the game’s top prize had previously been £50 million, but this was scrapped in favour of the lower total in order to make the game more exciting by producing large jackpots on a more regular basis.
The rules of the Lotto jackpot cap now state that the top prize can roll over until it surpasses £22 million, after which time the reward on offer must be won in the following draw. Saturday’s rollover bounty was worth £22.6 million and is estimated to reach a staggering £24.8 million on Wednesday, so it doesn’t take a mathematician to work out that the prize pot can increase no further.
Fewer Numbers, Bigger Win?
As the money on offer must be won, the jackpot will roll down to a lower prize tier if a winner cannot be found. Should this be the case, players who are able to match five main numbers and the Bonus Ball could cash in and share the game’s biggest prize since Wednesday 24th May.
That date represents the last time the jackpot cap was activated, when the prize soared to a colossal £25.4 million. On that occasion, no players were able to correctly predict the outcome of all six main numbers, meaning that the money fell at the feet of two ticket holders in the next highest tier. Both players chose to remain anonymous and ended the evening £12.7 million better off.
Saturday’s Lotto Results
Of course, it’s worth finding out just how Lotto lovers ended up staring down the barrel of a must-win draw. Saturday’s draw failed to produce a jackpot winner, with the numbers 6, 22, 40, 43, 47 and 58 eluding all those who played. The Bonus Ball was 42.
However, the draw did successfully lavish over 1.2 million players with prizes, the biggest of which fell to a ticket holder in the Match 5 + Bonus Ball tier who walked away with £86,738. There were a further 1,231,912 winners on the night, each of whom collected prizes ranging from a from a free Lucky Dip ticket for matching two numbers to £1,755 for correctly predicting five numbers.
There was also plenty of joy in the Millionaire Raffle draw, where one ticket holder correctly matched the winning code RUBY 6294 2424 to secure £1 million, while 20 participants landed £20,000 apiece. For extra draw information and a complete prize breakdown, visit the Lotto Results page.
